The ASL Heroes tournament uses a Swiss-style knockout system played over three days consisting of five rounds. The first two rounds on the Friday; the second two rounds on the Saturday and the final round on the Sunday morning.

As of the 2008 tournament the first round pairings are done randomly. The competitors are split into two halves by ranking and then a high rank player and low rank player are paired at random. After the first round pairings are based on the previous rounds results and are by mutual consent.

Prizes are awarded for first place, second place, last place and for snake-eyes (2) and boxcars (12). The snake-eyes/boxcars prizes are for the contestants whole rolled the most of these elusive dice combinations in any one round.
